Both directions of Grade Lane in Louisville, Kentucky, reopened on Monday, November 3. This move comes just one day before the first anniversary of a fatal UPS plane crash that occurred on November 4, 2025. The accident killed 15 people, with 12 of those victims being employees or customers of Grade A Auto Parts.

Local business owners described the months-long closure as detrimental to their operations. Customers were forced to travel to the Outer Loop to access the area, a detour that reduced foot traffic and sales. The road had been closed to allow for extensive cleanup and infrastructure repairs following the impact.

Officials led media representatives through three specific sites on Monday. The first location was the Melco basin, where a large volume of oil from the crash had flowed. Although the oil is now contained, officials continue to test the soil for contamination. Weather events have occasionally set back the testing process, requiring repeated analysis of the ground.

The other two sites marked the ground zero of the crash, where the plane struck Kentucky Petroleum Recycling. The impact caused oil tanks to explode, sending fuel into the basin. Metro Emergency Services Director Jody Meiman noted that the area is cleaner than it was six months ago, but work remains unfinished. He explained, "Sometimes, you take one step forward and two steps back. You clean something up and then you may uncover something else that you didn't expect."

Meiman stated that crews are currently replacing the water system on Grade Lane. Once that work is complete, efforts will shift to Melton, Knopp, and Abell Avenues. Despite the official reopening, officials advised drivers to exercise caution. Security personnel will maintain a 24-hour presence in the area to monitor the site and ensure safety.
