The Chicago White Sox have hired Matt Roffe from the Milwaukee Brewers front office. The move was reported by The Athletic on Thursday, less than 24 hours after the Brewers defeated their opponents to claim the World Series title.
Roffe will fill the director of amateur scouting position, a role left vacant on September 12 when Mike Shirley resigned. Shirley departed the organization following an internal investigation that resulted in allegations of verbal harassment. While MLB.com lists Roffe's title as director of amateur scouting, the White Sox have not yet officially confirmed the designation or his specific duties.
Roffe joined the Brewers organization in 2021. He served as a manager and coordinator of scouting operations before being promoted to assistant director of domestic scouting in 2025. Prior to his time in Milwaukee, he worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2019 to 2021 as a player personnel and pro scouting analyst.
During his tenure with Arizona, Roffe overlapped with Josh Barfield, who currently serves as the White Sox assistant general manager. It remains unclear exactly what responsibilities Roffe will hold beyond running the amateur draft, though he is expected to play a central role in the team's scouting operations.
The hiring represents a quick replacement for a key front office position that had been open for more than a month. The White Sox did not issue a formal statement regarding the details of Roffe's new role at the time of reporting.
