Ikea is discounting its Varmblixt smart lamp by 20 dollars, lowering the price to 79.99 dollars. The promotion runs through November 11 at Ikea stores and online. The device was previously tested by staff writer Jennifer Pattison Tuohy in April, who identified it as a top-tier smart light product due to its design and cost.
The lamp features a torus shape and supports the Matter protocol. It is designed for placement on a table surface or mounting on a wall via a drilled-in screw. The light emits 180 lumens, making it suitable for bedside use or ambient lighting rather than illuminating an entire room. This output level is consistent with mood lighting applications.
The current model includes a wireless remote control that functions without an app or hub. Users can toggle the power, adjust brightness, and cycle through 12 preset colors using this device. The available colors include shades of pink, blue, green, and white. This expands on the previous version, which was limited to orange. The remote can also command other compatible Ikea light fixtures.
For users integrating the lamp into a smart home ecosystem, Matter support enables connectivity with Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. This connection allows for voice control and access to hundreds of additional colors beyond the 12 presets. It also permits the creation of lighting schedules and routines for sleep or waking. The lamp can link with motion sensors and other smart lights.
Ikea’s Dirigera hub unlocks further capabilities for the Varmblixt. Through the Home Smart app, the hub provides a feature that gradually shifts the white light shade throughout the day. This function mimics natural daylight changes. The remote control remains available for basic operation, but the hub expands the range of automated controls.
