Jess Fishlock will suit up for Seattle Reign on Sunday, November 1, in a match against Orlando Pride that could determine her final competitive appearance. The 39-year-old midfielder is competing for the last remaining National Women's Soccer League playoff spot, a position currently shared with NC Courage and Denver Summit.
Reign sits in the final playoff slot, though NC Courage and Denver Summit hold superior goal differences. Both rival teams trail Reign by two and three points, respectively, and they face each other on the final day of the regular season. A victory over Orlando would guarantee an eighth playoff berth in Fishlock's 14-season tenure in Washington state.
Fishlock stated that her long tenure in the league gives her familiarity with these late-season scenarios. She expressed that the primary focus remains on the match itself, noting that the team desires to reach another round of playoffs and assess subsequent opportunities from there.
The player ended her international career in October 2025 after 166 appearances for Wales, a national record for both men and women. She signed a new contract with Seattle one month later and confirmed in April that she would retire following the 2026 campaign.
Despite her longevity, Fishlock has not won a NWSL championship. She finished as runner-up in 2014, 2015, and 2023. Advancing to the eight-team knockout stage would extend her club record, which includes two Champions League titles, and provide a potential final competitive outing.
Reign plans several stadium events to honor the veteran midfielder, including a commemorative photo booth and dedicated merchandise. Family members have traveled to the Pacific Northwest to attend the match at Lumen Field, where an attendance of 16,000 is expected.
Fishlock described the family presence as energetic and noted that she intends to focus on the game before processing the emotional weight of the moment. She added that she is grateful for the support but remains focused on keeping the season active through the playoffs.
Her retirement will mark the departure of the last original star from Reign's founding roster, following Megan Rapinoe and Lauren Barnes. After her final match, Fishlock will return to Wales to join Rhian Wilkinson's coaching staff for the national team's World Cup playoff final against Norway.
