Home Depot’s 12-foot skeleton, known as Skelly, has secured its status as a dominant fixture in American holiday retail following the addition of Bluetooth audio in 2026.
The product first hit store shelves in 2020 during the initial pandemic year. Priced at $299 and weighing 90 pounds, it quickly became a popular purchase for consumers seeking comfort items amid economic uncertainty. By 2024, the design was updated to include glowing LCD eyes. This year marks the latest iteration, which allows users to record sounds or speak into the figure live via a Bluetooth connection.
The skeleton has appeared on lawns and stoops across the country, from California to New Jersey. Owners often keep the figure in place year-round, dressing it for various seasons such as Christmas or the Fourth of July. Home Depot offers complementary products, including a dog, a cat, and a smaller 6.5-foot version of the skeleton for customers with limited space.
Aubrey Horowitz, a merchant for decorative holiday items at Home Depot, described the figure as the ultimate American decoration. She noted that the product fosters a sense of nostalgia and community connection. Horowitz also observed that larger decorations often appeal to buyers who prefer a more prominent display.
The company has reported that the item sells out before Halloween every year since its launch. The 2026 model continues this trend, with pre-holiday inventory depleting prior to the October 31 date. The Bluetooth feature allows the skeleton to play recorded audio or transmit live speech to nearby neighbors.
This product line is part of a recurring series examining American objects in the context of the nation's 250th anniversary. The series explores how specific items reflect cultural habits and consumer behavior. The 12-foot skeleton serves as a key example of seasonal excess in the United States.
Home Depot lists the standard 12-foot model at $299. The smaller 6.5-foot version is available for customers who prefer a less towering presence. The 2026 release includes the same weight and dimensions as previous years, with the primary addition being the integrated audio hardware.
