Galveston County voters will determine the outcomes of federal, state, and local contests on Nov. 3. The county allows residents to cast their ballots at any polling site within the jurisdiction. These locations will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.

While many Texas counties permit voters to choose any polling place, some require residents to vote at a specific precinct-based location. Galveston County falls under the flexible rule. Voters can verify their eligibility and specific voting details through the Am I Registered portal on the Secretary of State’s website. That portal lists a voter’s precinct, county, and assigned early voting and Election Day sites.

Texas law requires in-person voters to present an acceptable form of photo identification. The Secretary of State’s office lists seven primary documents that satisfy this requirement. These include a Texas Driver License, Election Identification Certificate, Personal Identification Card, or Handgun License issued by the Department of Public Safety. Voters may also present a United States Military Identification Card, Citizenship Certificate, or Passport.

If a voter lacks a primary photo ID, they may present supporting documents. Acceptable secondary forms include a government document showing name and address, a current utility bill, a bank statement, a government check, or a paycheck. A certified domestic birth certificate or a court-admissible foreign birth document also qualifies as supporting evidence.

The validity of the identification depends on the voter's age. Individuals between 18 and 69 must present an ID that is current or has been expired for no more than four years. Voters aged 70 and older may present a photo ID that has expired for any length of time, provided the document is otherwise acceptable.

The Nov. 3 ballot includes numerous races for various offices. Residents can review specific candidates for their county by selecting their jurisdiction on the state’s election website. The Galveston County Elections Office and the Texas Secretary of State website provide the foundational information for these voting procedures.

Voters facing issues during the election can contact the Secretary of State’s toll-free hotline at 1-800-252-VOTE. They may also email elections@sos.texas.gov. A formal complaint form is available for download and can be submitted via mail, fax, or email.
