Tensions in the Persian Gulf have intensified as the United States prepares for potential military action against Iran. The deployment of new air defense systems marks a shift in posture ahead of the upcoming American midterm elections.

The US military is transporting a Patriot air and missile defense system from Texas to the Middle East. This package includes radar equipment, an engagement control station, missile launchers, and interceptor missiles. The move aims to strengthen American defenses in the region.

Preparations for a potential conflict have been building over the past month. On October 1, a US official announced the deployment of the USS Theodore Roosevelt and additional Marine personnel to the area. More recently, on October 15, two diplomatic sources reported that Tehran instructed Hezbollah to increase its readiness. On Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio received an intelligence memorandum warning that Iranian efforts to target Americans had intensified.

Washington has briefed several Gulf Arab countries on its intentions. Officials told The Wall Street Journal that the US warned these nations to prepare for a short, intense military campaign following the November 3 midterm elections. US forces are currently relocating troops from bases considered vulnerable to Iranian attacks. Military personnel are also replenishing munitions stockpiles while bomber aircraft and fighter jets undergo maintenance for possible strikes.

Naval presence in the region is set to expand in November. An additional aircraft carrier strike group and a Marine Expeditionary Unit are expected to join approximately 20 US warships already operating in the Middle East. Some current vessels may rotate out of the area as new units arrive.

President Donald Trump is weighing further military action but has not made a final decision. Reports indicate he is leaning toward strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure and nuclear facilities, though a negotiated agreement remains a possibility. Iran has threatened to expand its retaliation if attacks resume, citing energy infrastructure, airports, and civilian facilities across the Persian Gulf as potential targets.
