Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan arrived in Kyiv on Monday, October 26, for a working visit focused on economic ties and security. He is accompanied by three cabinet ministers: Vladimir Bolea, the infrastructure minister; Anatolie Nosatîi, the defense minister; and Dorin Junghietu, the energy minister.

Tofan will meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. The Moldovan government announced that these meetings will address bilateral relations, trade cooperation, and regional security. Both countries are also discussing their respective paths toward the European Union.

The two prime ministers plan to attend the Kyiv International Economic Forum together. The event focuses on investment opportunities and the development of economic partnerships. These topics mirror the agenda set for their one-on-one discussions.

Energy remains a central issue in the bilateral relationship. Tofan and Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met on October 14 to discuss winter preparations and shared sectoral challenges. Tofan stated on October 12 that Moldova is considering purchasing natural gas from Ukraine to meet domestic demand. He identified this potential purchase as a key topic for his current trip.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu recently addressed the country's humanitarian posture. She said Moldova is ready to accept another influx of refugees from Ukraine if the situation there worsens. Her comments followed reports of severe conditions driving people to leave Ukraine.

The visit follows a series of high-level contacts between the two nations earlier in the month. The Moldovan government outlined the specific goals of this trip in a statement distributed to local media. The agenda emphasizes practical steps in trade and infrastructure development.

Tofan's schedule includes both political meetings and economic forums. The presence of the defense and energy ministers signals that security and resource supply are priority items. The Ukrainian side has confirmed the participation of its top leadership in the sessions.
